Vaginal Pessaries

ProFem pessaries are commonly used by women experiencing:

Insertion:

• Wash hands thoroughly.
• Fold or compress the pessary (depending on type) and gently insert it into the vagina like a tampon.
• Push the pessary toward the back and upward until it feels secure and comfortable.

Wearing Time:

Many women wear pessaries throughout the day and remove them at night. Some pessaries are designed for continuous wear for several days or even weeks. This depends on your doctor’s guidance.

Removal:

• Wash hands again.
• Use your fingers to hook or pinch the edge of the pessary and gently pull it downward and out.
• If dry, a water-based lubricant can help with removal.

Always follow your doctor’s instructions about how often to remove, clean, and reinsert your pessary.

• Check with your doctor before using a pessary for the first time or if you notice any discomfort.
• Schedule regular check-ups (typically every 3–6 months) to ensure the pessary is still fitting well and not causing irritation.
• If you experience pain, bleeding, unusual discharge, foul odor, or difficulty urinating, remove the pessary and contact your healthcare provider immediately.
• Some women may be prescribed vaginal estrogen cream to keep vaginal tissues healthy, especially during menopause or long-term pessary use.
• Always use water-based lubricants for esier insertion/removal.
