Vaginal pessaries
Vaginal pessaries were introduced to the market many years ago to be used in patients with mild prolapse or mild urinary incontinence. Recently, Vaginal Pesses are applied in cases of cervical insufficiency and to prevent premature birth.
Vaginal Pessos were occasionally made of different materials such as glass, porcelain, clay or rubber. Today we use tissue-compatible hypoallergenic silicone.
After menopause, the local application of estrogen is highly recommended to avoid local necrosis. Pesce placement provides an important therapeutic option for pelvic floor management because surgery is avoided and thus costs are minimal. Silicone pessaries contain a steel spring to hold their shape, and may be used in patients with mild prolapse or mild urinary incontinence.
