Lung Slab, Hilum removed - Erler Zimmer

The lung in this specimen has undergone dissection along a parasagittal plane, which involves the removal of the mediastinal surface. Typically, the hilum is the point where the pulmonary arteries, veins, and bronchi enter the lung. However, in this particular specimen, the primary bronchi are not visible as they have already undergone significant division. The extent of lateral dissection remains unclear, making it impossible to determine the level of bronchi subdivision (whether secondary or tertiary).

The cardiac impression is formed by the left ventricle of the heart resting against the mediastinal surface of the lung. Despite the parasagittal dissection, the cardiac impression is still observable as the most concave area on the medial surface of the lung.
The lung is positioned above the diaphragm, forming the concave diaphragmatic surface. Although the pleura has not been preserved in this specimen, ordinarily, a diaphragmatic recess exists, bounded by the costal and diaphragmatic pleura. This recess would be located between the lung's diaphragmatic impression and the diaphragm.
